The hypnotic trance state is, by definition, a deeply relaxed state of mind – as deeply calm, serene and relaxed one can be without actually falling asleep. Every hypnosis session, regardless of the issue being addressed, allows the client to release any anxiety and stress that is present. At the end of a session, clients often describe the feeling as deeply rested, like they’ve just awakened from a deep slumber or nap. Healthy stress coping tools are placed in the client’s mind during hypnosis for effective stress management between sessions.
It is said that the deep, subconscious part of your mind contains everything you’ve experienced from the moment of birth. Those experiences, both positive and negative, determine how you ultimately view the world and your experience in it. That viewpoint can have a profound effect on the circumstances and quality of the life you are living. One of the most common uses for hypnosis is the removal of unwanted habits or compulsive behaviors, such as stress or emotional eating, smoking, nail biting, or hair pulling. Compulsive behavior is often defined as a subconscious attempt to reduce or remove the anxiety/stress response. The hypnotic trance allows the subconscious part of the mind to identify the undesired habit or behavior as unacceptable and unnecessary. We then replace the unwanted behavior with a healthy stress/anxiety coping tool.
The deep, subconscious part of your mind doesn’t know fantasy from reality. Think of watching a fictional TV show or movie – you know it to be fiction consciously, but you enjoy it enough to really get into it. So into it, in fact, you experience an emotional response – suspense, fear, an urge to cry, perhaps. That is a light hypnotic trance you’ve put yourself in without even trying. When guided into a deeper state, your subconscious will accept positive suggestions and ideas without objection, because it doesn’t know if they are reality or a desired result or goal. The subconscious then goes to work bringing them into fruition. That is the crux of how hypnosis works for you. If the thing you want can be imagined, and is realistic, you can reprogram your subconscious mind to achieve it.
